District Masking Mandate Announcement: Wednesday, December 1, 2021
December 1, 2021
On Monday, November 22, 2021, the Mountain View Board of Education voted to allow the wearing of masks to be optional and at the discretion of each school employee, school visitor, and/or student pending the elimination of the masking mandate issued by the Department of Health on December 4, 2021.
However, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania issued a ruling that requires all schools in the commonwealth to maintain masking guidelines for students until the Court hears oral arguments on Dec. 8. The ruling overturns a decision by the Commonwealth Court earlier this month that lifted masking guidelines on December 4th.
Even though oral arguments will be given to the Supreme Court on December 8, 2021, the ruling on the arguments can occur days or weeks later. The Mountain View School District will continue to follow the current masking mandate until the Supreme Court rules on the case. We greatly appreciate your patience as this emotional topic gets sorted out at the state level.
